A PIECE FOR A TENT 2006

Sound installation, tent, mirror-ball, led-light, CD-player, headphones.
Duration 3 min

A PIECE FOR A TENT was part of a collaborative installation “MAKE YOUR OWN SHADOW”, which was made together with Johanna Ketola, Sebastian Lindberg, Marja Mikkonen, Pilvi Takala and myself, for an exhibition in the Holden Gallery at the Manchester Metropolitan University.
Each of us had a tent where we showed individual work in. The inside of my tent was darkened, there were a rotating mirror ball, a small spotlight, mattress and a CD player with head phones. The sound was a symphony of raindrops that was recorded with headset microphones inside the same tent, exactly in the same place where the viewer could listen to it through headphones. This created a credible illusion of rain falling on the tent that
eventually grew into a storm before fading out.
